NEW YORK
GOSPEL SHOW
guest at the Wormser
After the great success of the SWEET SOUL MUSIC REVUE, Klaus Gassmann now presents the SWEET SOUL GOSPEL REVUE: Experience the diverse history of gospel: from traditional spirituals to current gospel hits to selected songs from the R'n'B genre.
Experience great songs like Amazing Grace, Swing Down Sweet Chariot, Since I Layed My Burden Down, Oh Happy Day or Michael Jackson's Earth Song in a special gospel arrangement - performed by a 5-person all-star band and nine outstanding US gospel artists.
"The best thing America has given the world is our 'black music' and its basis is spirituals and gospel. All African-American artists are influenced by these roots," emphasizes Derrick Alexander, one of the nine American vocal soloists in the revue. The lead vocals also include the experienced gospel singers Donniele Graves, Noreda Graves and Darnita Rogers, to name just a few. There is also a band on stage under the direction of James Simpson that combines professional experience with original authenticity.
The SWEET SOUL GOSPEL REVUE shows the fundamental importance of gospel for American music culture. From its beginnings in the 18th century to the present day, spirituals and gospel have influenced almost all forms of popular music: blues, soul, R&B, jazz, rock, even hip hop and country. At the same time, these different styles have found their way into gospel music. "There are different forms of gospel. What they have in common is love for God and people. Showing this is what the SWEET SOUL GOSPEL REVUE is all about," Derrick Alexander is sure.
